The Company

Our client is an independent German investment company that invests in SMEs in the DACH region. Founded in Munich, the firm has since successfully launched several funds and currently has more than Euro 2 billion capital under management.

Our client follows an active investment approach and has established a dedicated Operations Team that works closely with portfolio companies on implementing key value creation initiatives. The Operations Team serves as the strategic guide for company executives to develop and implement measures to unlock value in different functions such as sales and marketing, customer operations, supply chain operations, product and technology and organizational development.

To ensure compliance with state-of-the-art sustainability standards of their portfolio companies, our client is looking to hire a Sustainability Professional (m/f/d) to their team. The Sustainability Professional will support the assets/portfolio companies with designing and implementing sustainability-related value creation initiatives. In addition, the task includes the development of sustainability performance monitoring and communication activities from the fund perspective.

Your Tasks

The Sustainability Professional will work closely with other members of the client’s team, as well as with senior management of the portfolio companies to identify sustainability-related value creation opportunities, initiate and coordinate implementation, and secure their long-term success. The candidate’s key tasks will include:

  • Develop the fund’s approach to sustainability & impact investing:
  • Develop standardized tools and best practice approaches for driving sustainability-related value creation
  • Further expand the client’s fund sustainability performance monitoring system and ensure compliance with regulatory standards
  • Further develop the client’s communication activities on sustainability issues to the client’s investors and the general public
  • Developing a portfolio company’s sustainability agenda and drive implementation of sustainability-related value creation initiatives:
  • Reduce environmental footprints (e.g. energy efficiency, fleet carbon emissions, material use, sustainable product design, …)
  • Achieve optimal occupational health and safety and social standards to foster employee wellbeing, productivity, and company reputation
  • Establish robust governance structures and systems to safeguard regulatory compliance, minimize risks and ensure fast and professional incident management
  • Develop practical/pragmatic solutions for action planning and execution
  • Provide hands-on support during the execution of multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Support M&A:
  • Participate in deal sourcing and execution process, coordinate sustainability due diligence workstreams
  • Support decision making through development of improvement concepts and respective business cases

What You Bring With You

  • 5-10 years of professional experience, including 3-4 years of experience in sustainability advisory positions, with experience on consulting companies and their executives, board or sustainability/IR departments
  • Additional operational experience and track record with successfully implementing sustainability initiatives, e.g. in the role as sustainability manager, is a plus
  • Very good understanding of the sustainability ecosystem, standards and frameworks like TCFD, SASB, SDGs, GRI and regulatory landscape (CSRD/NFRD, SFDR, EU Taxonomy)
  • Data analysis and visualization skills, advanced MS Excel skills and the motivation to learn new applications
  • Experience in strategic consulting firms is helpful

  • Travel will be moderate (1-2 days per week)
  • Presence in the Munich office is important
  • Excellent written and oral German & English language skills
